Why water kefir?

Well, water kefir is good for your gut health!

And as I read some articles, your gut is supposed to be your second brain, because a healthy gut is a healthy human. It even can determine your behaviour!?

Research has shown that the body is actually composed of more bacteria than cells. We are more bug than human!? So in order to maintain a healthy gut it is wise to think about your eating and drinking habits.

As I always wrestled with a disturbed gut health, I started with water kefir. Not only for my gut health, but also as a replacement for water. I don't drink soft drinks, it's too sweet. So, besides (sparkling) water and coffee there wasn't much I could drink.

But what is water kefir?

Water kefir is made from kefir grains, the grains make up a culture of various strains of good bacteria and yeasts, held together in a polysaccharide matrix created by the bacteria.

The symbiotic relationship of the microbes produces a stable growing culture. The microbes feed on sugar and produce lactic acid, alcohol (ethanol), and carbon dioxide, yielding a fermented carbonated beverage. The alcohol content is usually very minimal, less than 1 %.

A lot of expensive words to say that it is a natural (sparkling) product and you can flavour it with all kinds of fruit.
